Business planning is the process of finding, describing, and refining the competitive advantage your business has that can improve your overall profit potential. A business plan can help define the goals and objectives you have for your ranch business and can provide the links between short and long term goals to help your outfit define activities and products that will successfully increase profit margins in your current production and financial situation. Many smaller outfits feel like their operation isn’t big enough to justify the time and expense of creating a business plan. “Business plans are for big corporate outfits” is what I often hear from smaller ranchers. This often times is a false assumption. Smaller outfits are far more susceptible to making management and marketing mistakes than larger ranches because larger outfits can absorb costly mistakes much more readily than smaller operations. Having a well thought out plan is extremely important for any business, regardless of size, to avoid making those costly mistakes. |
