Livestock Judging Team

History runs deep in livestock judging at South Dakota State University. As you walk down the hallway in the Animal Science Complex you can find pictures of past judging teams. Within those pictures you can find many industry leaders, breed association executive secretaries, as well as prominent producers within the state and across the country. Past team members claim that participating on a judging team was one of the most beneficial college experiences they had. Employers have continuously sought out members of livestock judging teams because of the attributes they develop while participating on the judging team such as the ability to make decisions, think quickly and aggressively, work under pressure, and communicate effectively.

The SDSU Livestock Judging Team participates at the following contests throughout the year;

• National Western Stock Show, Denver Colorado;
• Sioux Empire Show, Sioux Falls, South Dakota;
• Iowa Beef Expo, Des Moines, Iowa;
• National Meat Animal Evaluation Contest, St. Joseph, Missouri;
• National Barrow Show, Austin, Minnesota;
• Mid-America, Wichita, Kansas;
• American Royal, Kansas City, Missouri; and
• The National Contest at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky.
