William and Helen McCone/Little I Scholarship
William C. “Bill” McCone was born at Redfield,
SD. He received a B.S. degree in Animal Husbandry at South Dakota State College
in 1943 and a Master’s Degree in Animal Science in 1950. He served as an
associate professor in the Animal Science Department until his retirement in
1982, when he was named Professor Emeritus. Bill was involved with Little
International at SDSU for 40 years as a participant, judge and advisor as well
as judge for livestock shows across the Midwest. Helen Schoenwether McCone was
born at Brookings. She graduated from South Dakota State College in 1942 and
taught high school English in rural South Dakota. Bill died April 17, 2002 and
Helen died January 27, 2004.
