Orville Stangl Agricultural Scholarship
Orville Stangl was born in 1921 on a farm near Java, SD that he as lived on all his life, except while attending college and serving in the military. He farmed in partnership with two older brothers until they retired in 1967 and 1970. He is a combat veteran of two wars, serving in World War II in Europe and in the Korean War. His farming operations include the breeding of Shorthorn cattle since 1946. He received his B.S. degree in Agricultural Education from South Dakota State College in 1943. Orville has received the SD Soil and Moisture Achievement Award as well as the SD Wildlife Federation Forest Conservation Award. Mr. Stangl served as an officer of the SD Beef Improvement Assn., SD Stockgrowers Assn., and National Cattlemen’s Assn.
