Rick and LaRayne Wahlstrom Scholarship

In 1988, Dr. Richard “Rick” Wahlstrom retired from his position as Professor of Animal Science after 36 years of service to South Dakota State University.  His tenure at SDSU produced numerous awards for outstanding undergraduate and graduate teaching, worldwide recognition as a swine nutrition and management researcher, and wide acclaim as a true “gentleman.”  He received the first ever “Distinguished Professor” designation from the South Dakota Board of Regents.

LaRayne Wahlstrom has an energy level equal to every task, from being the wife of a department head to serving the needs of a child in an undeveloped country.  LaRayne has achieved international acclaim for her United Methodist Church mission activities.
