Scholarships are an integral part of an undergraduate teaching
program. For the 2007-200 school year approximately $75,000 was awarded to South
Dakota State University students majoring in Animal Science or Range Science.
Financial aid for students is increasingly important and the department
appreciates the generosity of the organizations and individuals and their
families and friends that make these scholarships available.
Deadline for receipt of applications on-line is February 15. Deadline
for receipt of Tex Lewis scholarships (for range science majors) is February 15,
2008 (see additional information at bottom of this WEB page).

Instructions:
On your application, please describe experiences you may have had with various
species of livestock as well as indicate your career interest in a specific
discipline, such as nutrition, genetics, reproduction, natural resource
management.
1. Find attached the general
scholarship application form, which will also be used for the Department of
Animal and Range Sciences Department scholarships. Note:
Incoming Freshmen will need to complete the
general SDSU scholarship application, not this
form. This may be obtained from the SDSU Admissions Office, (605)
688-4121 or SDSU Financial Aids Office (605) 688-4695.
2. Please read through all the forms before you begin filling them out.
3. Scholarships are open only to declared Animal and Range Sciences majors, double-majors included.
4. This form covers all scholarships.

*Scholarships available for range science majors include:
Freshman Range Scholarship ($600) available to anyone who plans
on majoring in range science at SDSU.
James K. "Tex" Lewis Range Scholarship ($600) available to an
upperclassman majoring in range science at SDSU. Deadline for applications is February 15, 2008.
**Scholarships in conservation are being offered by the South Dakota Chapter of
Soil and Water Conservation Society. Scholarship eligibility:
Completed at least one year of study in an accredited university, college or
vocational/technical school in SD; currently enrolled in a SD educational
institution; a cumulative GPA of 2.8; an undergraduate enrolled in an
agricultural or natural science conservation related major/curriculum; show
reasonable need for financial assistance; involvement in natural resource
conservation activities (including leadership activities); previous recipients
not eligible.
